Treatment to be undergone

High doses of medication should be provided until the jaw starts opening normally. Once the jaw opens the dose can be reduced after certain months. Some dogs may have excessive urination, so it is better to test for bladder infection too. However in some cases medication cannot be stopped as there are chances for the disease to relapse. So it is advisable to take mild doses regularly. Muscle Biopsy is also a best idea if the inflammation is too high and scary. If the dog finds chewing food very painful, feed him with semi liquid foods. Avoid opening its mouth; instead you can give it some chewing toys which is a good physical therapy.

Types of Myositis

• Juvenile forms of Myositis (JM) : JM is found normally in children below the age of 18. It is of two types:

§ Juvenile Polymyositis: This Type of Myositis is found in extremely rare cases.

Signs and Symptoms

Weakness of muscle and pain in joints. Muscles close to trunk are badly affected.
